As we turn the corner into the 1950s, the magazine just feels different. The cloud of war has nearly blown clear of coverage, and social associations and activities seem to be more joyful. Travel is back in the advertising, as are photos of rested travelers. Through ads and editorial, alike, we find that life is mostly back to normal. The biggest “first” we have is the establishment and actualization of The Jewel Ball. Now serving as Kansas City’s premiere debutante ball, it had its inaugural event on June 25, 1954.
