Mrs. Irvine Oty Hockaday, Jr. served as the honorary chairman and Mrs. Barret Spencer Heddens III was the chairman for The Jewel Ball. A profusion of orchids and a purple glow infused The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art with the vitality of a summer night on November 27th, when the Debutantes and Gentlemen of The Jewel Ball were presented. The event benefited the Kansas City Symphony, which Mr. Michael Duane Fields represented, and the Museum, which was represented by Mr. Ramón Murguía. In addition to the presentations, the evening included cocktails, dinner, and dancing. The first Jewel Ball was held in 1954.

The beautiful Jewel Ball jewel was on display.
